What is Dropshipping?

Dropshipping is a simple retail fulfillment method where a store owner purchases stock from suppliers after a customer has placed an order from their store. If you would like to start dropshipping or learn how dropshipping works with Shopify, this is one of the best and only posts you have to read on the subject.

How Does Dropshipping Work with Shopify?

Dropshipping works in the following manner and mainly involves the following three parties, namely:

  • An Ecommerce MerchantYou, being the owner of an ecommerce website
  • The SupplierThe owner and supplier of products posted or displayed on the merchant’s website
  • The Customer Anyone visiting the merchant’s ecommerce website with the intention of shopping or buying a product from the merchant.

Typically, a customer will simply visit an ecommerce website where products were posted and displayed by the merchant. When a customer places an order and pays for the item, the merchant will then fulfill the order by placing an order for the same product from the supplier. The supplier will then ship the item directly to the customer’s selected physical address.

How to Start a Dropshipping Business with Zero Investment?

In order to start a dropshipping business, you will need the following:

  •  Decide what you want to sell – a product or products
  • Find a supplier or suppliers for your product(s)
  • Create an Online store
  • Add product(s) to your Online store
  • Attract potential customers to your store

Deciding on What to Sell

In this post, we will only discuss a method which requires zero investment in starting a dropshipping business. With that being said, we will only sell products from already established suppliers. Deciding what to sell can sometimes prove to be a daunting task, but I will share a method that I used to generate my first sale within 24 hours of my Online store being live. Head over to AliExpress and open a free account to use for finding products and suppliers. AliExpress is by far, one of the largest wholesale directories you will ever find Online.

Is it Safe to Dropship Products From China’s AliExpress?

If you have been around the web long enough, you will find that there has been plenty of stories about fake AliExpress suppliers circulating the world-wide-web. Quite recently, AliExpress.com has thrown many resources into fighting these claims and stories, so dropshipping suppliers who scam their merchants and customers are now a quite rare event. In other words, you shouldn’t be worried about the safety of dropshipping from China’s AliExpress.

For a bit of comparison, one of the largest wholesale directories, WholeSale2b, offers over 1,500,000 products. AliExpress sells more than 1,500,000 t-shirts alone, and you can choose to dropship any of them simply by importing them from AliExpress into your store. Not to mention the mind boggling number of other categories including everything from electronics and jewelry and much more.

You can search products on the marketplace and choose from millions of options. When you find an item that you like and wish to sell in your own store, simply import the product from AliExpress to your store and set your own price markups.

Let us assume that you decided to sell baby clothes.

Using the image above as a guideline to deciding on what to sell, make sure you sell what people are already buying. You can easily determine this by noticing the number of orders already being placed on the product. Also, positive customer reviews are equally important in making sure that you sell something that people already like. Quality is key when it comes to repeat customers.

Finding a supplier or suppliers for your product(s)

The supplier’s store details are listed within every product detail within AliExpress. Click on the link to their store and contact them to arrange a dropshipping partnership. Many people in the dropshipping business do not contact suppliers but simply import supplier products to their stores and immediately start selling them. I would advice you not to follow in their footsteps and contact the supplier to create a certain level of trust. This can also help you buy products from your supplier at a much lower wholesale price and make huge profits.

Please note that you can start your dropshipping business even without contacting the supplier.

Now that we have found products and a supplier, we can start creating our Online store and start importing products.

Creating an Online Store

Dropshipping is one of the easiest ways to start an Online business with zero to little investment capital. The best way to start dropshipping is by creating an Online store through Shopify’s free 14-day trial. During the trial period, you will learn how to create an ecommerce store, add products to your store and start selling to potential customers. This is perfect model since you have the potential to start earning without having to pay a single penny upfront.

How to Start Dropshipping with Shopify

With that being said, I advise you to immediately head over to Shopify, click ‘start your free trial’, enter your store name, and create your store. It’s easy, fast and most importantly, you don’t need to be a developer to create you store. Please keep in mind that Shopify offers 14 days free trial. This should provide you with sufficient time to make your first sale or multiple sales before your trial period ends. Unless you have a unique, killer product in mind, simply make sure you sell what people are already buying. I obviously cannot put enough emphasis on the importance of picking the “right” product to sell.

Automatically Adding or Importing Products to Your Online Store

This is where the fun begins as we are now ready to start importing our products to our shop. First and foremost, make sure you have Google Chrome installed on your PC or laptop. If not, follow the link provided and install it now. Once you have Chrome installed, all you have to do is Install Oberlo app and add products from AliExpress.

Attracting Customers to Your Store

 What is the point of having a beautiful Online store when no one knows it exists? If you are serious about getting the word out about your new Online store, then listen up.

The best way to instantly get customers to your Online store is through paid advertising. There are plenty of ways to do this but I will only share methods which I personally recommend. Use Facebook advertising, Google Advertising or even Bing advertising to get customers to your Online store today, not tomorrow.
